A Shirt Made From Dirt

I don’t watch a lot of TV but there are two shows that I ‘must see’ each week. Obviously, one of them is LOST. The other is Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe. There are so many reasons why I love this show. Mostly, I appreciate the dirt and grime, as well as the show’s theme of people doing the kind of jobs that make civilized life possible for the rest of us.

Sure, I cringe in horror from time to time, but no doubt Dirty Jobs celebrates hard work while educating AND entertaining its viewers. I can honestly say that since the show aired a few years back, I’ve gained a sincere appreciation for many of the jobs I never even knew existed.

During my recent trip to Hawaii, I learned that the DJ crew had been there a few months earlier to film a segment featuring a popular local product, known as ‘dirt shirts’. We came across Dirt Shirt stores all over, but my most favorite location was at the factory store on the island of Kauai. We were given a tour of the shop as well as complimentary shaved iced…yum!

Check out the tote I bought. It came in handy for carrying my souvenirs!

Fans can buy products (shirts, hats, etc.) to support mikeroweWORKS (founded by Mike Rowe) at any of the Dirt Shirt stores and/or online. It’s a great cause and so cool to know that you’re taking away a little piece of Hawaii.

The ‘Dirt Shirt’ episode was originally scheduled to air today (Nov. 17) on the Discovery channel, but the date might have been changed. So…if the segment does not air tonight then be sure to keep a lookout. To learn more about the product, visit www.dirtshirt.com and please show your support at www.mikeroweworks.com.

Good times in the Home of the Red Dirt Shirts. My favorite color is “red”!!! People who know me still ask me: “why do like the color red so much”! It’s funny they have to even ask me. Haha!
